Silencing the Critics

During the election season there was no mention in the mainstream media of an outdated policy called the “Fairness Doctrine”, yet it was on the minds of many conservatives. The Fairness Doctrine existed in this country at one time. The basic premise was that if a media outlet presented one point of view, equal time had to be given to the opposing view point. However, under President Reagan the FCC in the 1980’s did away with the “Fairness Doctrine” because it is blatant violation of the First Amendment. One reason this doctrine fell out of favor was because in 1978 NBC did a show on the Holocaust, and they were sued because a group wanted equal time to talk about how the Holocaust was a myth.

Now one might ask why this is an issue if the FCC did away with this policy in the 1980’s? The reason is because there are many in the House and Senate who would like to revive this vile piece of legislation and Senator Chuck Schumer is leading the charge. Many on the left despise the likes of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Laura Ingram, and other right/independent radio talk show hosts, simply because they are successful and Left Wing Talk Radio (Air America) is not.

So one might ask: ok fair is good right? In this case the answer is a resounding NO. First of all, privately owned radio stations, that do not receive public money, air Rush, Sean, Bill, and others. The way a radio station makes money is through its advertisers and advertisers buy time for shows that have a popular draw. Again these are privately owned entities, which are not beholden to the Federal Government, therefore radio stations would be bankrupted should they have to air liberal talk show hosts. Advertisers do not buy time for shows that do not have mass appeal. But it is not only right leaning talk shows that would be put out of business; it is also Christian Radio as well. Remember, the Fairness Doctrine states that if you present one point of view, equal time must be given to an opposing point of view. So for example: if a Christian station did a show any Biblical Principal equal time would need to be given to someone who is a Satanist.

So maybe you are asking yourself: why on earth would the House and Senate, led by Sen. Chuck Schumer adopt such a stance and why would a President Obama sign such a blatant First Amendment squashing bill? The answer is because they wish to silence their critics. Talk Radio has given Conservatives a voice and the Left hates that. Without the voice of people like Rush, Sean, Mark Levine, and Laura Ingram it is likely much of what was learned about Sen. Obama would not have been without much digging. Simply because the main stream media was in the tank for Obama during the election cycle and they did not vet him.

The other issue with regards to the Fairness Doctrine, that has not been discussed as much, is the fact that it will not require an act of Congress to be enacted. Remember it was a FCC regulation, and the FCC is run by 5 people, 2 Republicans, 2 Democrats and the 5th person is appointed at the pleasure of the President. In June 2009, the now Presidential appointee will step down because his term is up and President Obama will appoint the 5th person, thus giving the liberals the tie breaking vote. Senator Obama is beholden to the far left of the Democratic Party, as well as Moveon.org, who would like nothing more than to silence any critic of the left. Additionally, Senator Obama wishes to increase the “Hate Crimes” statues to include speech as well. Hate speech, while evil, is also subjective to the one who defines it.

So what do we do? This is a huge one; this will take a mass effort of contacting Senators and House Members, the FCC itself, and President-elect Obama to keep this from being reenacted. To reenact the Fairness Doctrine is to silence the critics of the upcoming administration and to remove voices of dissent. This is completely un-American and again falls under Marxism. One reason our Nation has withstood the test of time is because no one gets so much power as to silence the dissenting voices. One only needs to look at countries like the former Soviet Union, North Korea, China, and Cuba to see the evil that permeates when people cannot speak out. Every free society needs gadflies, it does not matter which political party is in the majority to continue being free. A current example of silencing free speech by government mandate that happened just this week took place in Iran. President Ahmadinejad became angry at an Iranian Newspaper because the headline stated; “Why Doesn’t Iran Have an Obama?” For that the newspaper was closed (see story here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,449945,00.html ).

There is a small amount of good news to this attempted revival of the Fairness Doctrine; there are many moderate and conservative Democrats who do not believe in it, as well as some members of the liberal media. I believe they know that if any group in our society is silenced, it won’t be long before they are next. However, we must remember that the movement is afoot to silence the dissenters and this can happen without Congress’ action. First radio, then television, then the internet, our churches, and our homes, many times we sit back and say this or that can’t happen this is America, but to believe that is deceiving. People in Nazi Germany, in the former Soviet Union, in Cuba, and China believed that at one time too. Many people in the incoming administration do not hold the view that a free society is a good thing. They believe that the government knows best and they will do all they can to take our liberties away one at a time, if we are not prayerfully vigilant and aware.

Now What?

Ok, so I am sure some of us are wondering now what? Now that this election is over, what can I do? I was wondering the same thing myself.

First we pray and this is my prayer:

Father God:
Thank you for allowing me to live in this country. Father I pray that You will reveal yourself in a mighty way to Pres. Elect Obama, that You will place around Him people that will listen and obey You. I pray that none of us forget from whom our blessings and prosperity flow. And that Your hand will cover this country in protection. Show me Lord what I may do to serve You in all of this. Amen

I know at first I was taken aback that I would need to pray to be obedient to God as I was horrified by the election results, but I do need to pray daily for this country and it's leaders. Not because I agree with them, but because I do so in obedience to God.

The second thing we can do is to remember we have a voice. Our voices have not been silenced, despite the election results. This country is still more traditional and center-right than it is liberal and center-left. We also need to look at each of the policies that will be coming into effect and look honestly at how they will effect our country. We need to not be afraid, we do not have a spirit of fear at all. To be angry is different than to be afraid and I am angry, but I also know that now is the time to act.

We need to support our conservative leaders and look at their records. If they represent your views, then support them, call them, write them and email them as their upcoming job will now be much more difficult, as they are the minority in the House and Senate. If you look and don't see that person, then think about running for office yourself. Now you may think: me? hmmm, not sure about that. But my question is: why not you? Is the cost high to speak out? Yes it is, but it always has been. One of the biggest mistakes I believe we have made, is that we have been afraid to stand up and speak out. However, we can see the result of this with not just the election of a liberal President, but the almost complete takeover of the House and Senate by Democrats and in my State the complete take over of the Democrats in State Government.

To stand up and speak out can be scary, because all of the "what if's" run through our minds. What if I lose friends, what if I lose my job, what if someone is mean to my children? What if's can be any number of things, but the truth of the matter is that unless we do take a stand and speak out, our country will continue to slide into more immorality and the blessings we have enjoyed will continue to erode.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am one of the least likely people to speak out, because I am shy and not crazy about confrontation and I desire acceptance like most people. However, I also know that God has used unlikely people before to accomplish His will and purpose, so I need to be willing to take that step in faith without fear.

Stripping of Parent's Rights

As I read the words in Sen. Obama’s education plan to move toward creating universal childcare, I was chilled to the bone. Not because I oppose child care or even public education, but because the thought of an intrusive government deciding that my child needs to be in child care or even a public school is not my idea of a Free America.

One of the liberties we have in this country is the right to decide what type of education we want for our children. We can decide if we want our child in child care and if we do, what type of child care we desire, be it a nanny, a church daycare, a commercial daycare, a private school, etc.. As to education; we have the right to choose home-school, private school, charter school, or public school and in general we make a choice based on the needs of our individual families. This is part of the rugged individualism that has helped build this country.

So to hear that a Pres. Obama would move towards universal childcare, i.e. all children in care by the age of 2 being educated by the State. All public school children learning sex education beginning in kindergarten; more federal intrusion in our schools thus removing more freedom from teachers, state and local governments, but most importantly from parents. China, Cuba, and North Korea have such government run school systems, it's called Socialism/Marxism.

Another troubling promise of Sen. Obama’s that will strip away parental rights is to require community service of all citizens beginning in middle school. Again I am not against volunteerism or community service but these are issues of the heart and should absolutely never be legislated. Some of the community service programs for our youth reek of Nazi Germany including the one entitled Youth Building (remember the Hitler Youth). My opinion is that parents should always have the ultimate say in what their children learn and participate in, as long as it is not abusive. That is our right and responsibility as parents and certainly worth fighting for. While volunteering is a wonderful thing, again it is a heart issue and cannot be forced onto a population. Based upon the liberal idea that God is not in control or does not even exist, it stands to reason that forced volunteerism/community service will not include volunteering through our Houses of Worship or anything that seems even the least bit faith-based.

One of the biggest issues I see with the incoming administration is the deep belief that Government is the answer to all of society’s ills and that Government knows best. We have long been on the slide to the Nanny State; it seems the descent into such a Marxist government has been accelerated.

So again this begs the question: what do we do? Our home is blessed enough to allow my husband to stay home and teach our children, thus removing some of the things they would learn in public school that we disagree with and also allows them an amazing education. Now, I am well aware that this is not an option for every parent or family and it may not always be a choice we as a family get to make. So my suggestions are as follows: Make your voice heard at the school board and if you disagree, run for a seat yourself. Stay in touch with your children’s teachers and school administrators to know what your kids are learning in school and review their assignments. Support good teachers and lobby for the removal of those who are not, the same applies for administrators. Be a member of the PTA and if you can spend some time in your child's classroom, do so. If an assignment comes home that you disagree with, go to the school and ask for an alternate assignment. Always remember: our kids learn the most from their parents, so walk what you talk. Also teach your children actual history, not the revisionist version that is now being taught in school. Teach them the principals that our nation was founded on, the blood and treasure we have spread around the world for freedom’s sake and on our own soil for the liberties we enjoy. Hold your local schools to account for not teaching your child the basics in reading, writing, math, and history. It is incumbent upon us as parents to know what ours and our children’s rights are with regard to what they learn in school. Stand against this societal need for political correctness and diversity education; it is perfectly permissible and legal to not permit your child to participate in educational activities that you find morally repugnant.

I would also suggest that if your state does not permit Charter schools, lobby for them. Or if there is a Charter school cap, lobby for it to be removed. Lobby for vouchers and if your state allows vouchers, lobby for the expansion of them. Remember; this does not take money from the children, which is a "misstatement" created and perpetrated by liberals. What it does do is it allows the tax dollars that are figured per pupil in every school district to follow your child, to whereever they go to school. Our public school system is, in general, an abject failure and not because of the teachers either, but schools would improve if they had to compete.

It is easy for us to become overwhelmed with the challenges we face but remember your voice does count, Mom's are a huge voting block thus we carry more weight than we believe with the community and politicans.

Post Election Thoughts

This election affected me in a profound way. I could not believe what I saw with the election of Sen. Obama. It seemed so surreal that such a man would be elected to the highest office in the free world. I spent much of the excruciatingly long election cycle praying that God would not allow Sen. Obama to win, because as I read more and more about this man I was astonished that he was even in the running, not to mention leading in the polls. The reality is that Sen. Obama is now President-Elect Obama and so now we must move forward with an honest look at how his policies will effect our lives and that of our children. That is why I am writing this blog.

I am sure there are many moms who are disheartened and maybe if you are reading this you are not a mom, but are disheartened nonetheless. First let me say that God was not surprised by the results of this election and while I do not purport to speak for God, I do believe the election results are not God's best plan for America. I spent days angry that such a thing could have come to pass in the country I love so much, but it did. So now I have a choice: I can moan and complain or I can act. I choose to act and this blog will be one way to act.

My Post Election Thoughts:

I am sad for what took place on Election Day. I am sad that rhetoric was chosen over substance. I am sad that Marxism was chosen over freedom and liberty. I am sad that someone, who has never stood up for his country, was chosen over a man who has given his entire adult life to the service of his country. I am sad that a con was chosen over a patriot and true American hero. I am sad that Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" was hijacked with the public not judging a man by the content of his character, but once again choosing to view the color of someones skin. I am sad that our Nation, that was founded and sustained by Judeo-Christian values, voted for someone who revels in the deaths of the unborn and already born. I am sad that Americans chose government intrusion over our Bill of Rights. I am sad that the principals we hold dear and the foundations of this great country were traded for a government handout.

While no one can know the future except for Our Creator, I do believe that America made the wrong choice. Her future is much less secure and those who have given their lives in Service to America and her freedoms may have now done so in vain.

Overturning Executive Orders

Our Founding Fathers never intended for a President to have ultimate power, they did not want a king or dictator. The Constitution was created to give the United States 3 distinct branches of government, to create a check and balance system. This included the Executive Branch (the President), the Legislative Branch (House and Senate), and the Judicial Branch (the Supreme Court). Unfortunatly like all things here on earth the original intent has been skewed throughout our history.

U.S. Presidents have issued executive orders since 1789. Although there is no Constitutional provision or statute that explicitly permits executive orders, there is a vague grant of "executive power" given in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution and the statement "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed" in Article II, Section 3. Most executive orders are orders issued by the President to US executive officers to help direct their operation, the result of failing to comply being removal from office. (Wikipedia)

Executive orders gained more use as time went on and the debate continues whether Executive orders should be utilized, but the fact is, they are. Now an Executive Order can be used for the good of our country, or it can be abused for the harm of our country.

In June 2007 President Bush signed an Executive Order that prohibited federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, including creating stem cells for the purpose of research and destruction. In essence: this Exec. Order stopped the use of tax payer dollars for the destruction of life. President-elect Obama is planning to revoke this Executive Order. Now some say that the greater good is served by doing medical experiments on embryonic stem cells, but the greater good never gives us the right to create life for its experimentation and destruction. Medical experimentation on living creation has been used by some of the most vile and determental governments in history (Nazi Germany & Communist Russia).

You can read the executive order here and decide for yourself if overturning this ban is moral or not. I tend to believe it is immoral and I do not believe my tax dollars should be used for this, it is indeed a slippery slope:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/06/20070620-6.html

Another Executive Order that a President Obama would revoke is the Restoration of the Mexico City Policy. Here is the short explanation:

"The Mexico City Policy announced by President Reagan in 1984 required nongovernmental organizations to agree as a condition of their receipt of Federal funds, that such organizations would neither perform nor actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations". This policy was in effect until it was rescinded on January 22, 1993.

It is my conviction that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions or advocate or actively promote abortion, either here or abroad. It is therefore my belief that the Mexico City Policy should be restored. Accordingly, I hereby rescind the "Memorandum for the Acting Administrator of the Agency for International Development, Subject: AID Family Planning Grants/Mexico City Policy," dated January 22, 1993, and I direct the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development to reinstate in full all of the requirements of the Mexico City Policy in effect on January 19, 1993. "

So again our tax dollars would be used to destroy life and not only life in this country, but also life in other countries.

I believe that revoking either of these acts is evil on its face, as it destroys life and despite my disagreement with the continued use of Executive Orders, we need to speak out and stand up for those who cannot speak up and stand up for themselves.

So how do we accomplish this? Well, write to Pres. Elect Obama and let him know you do not wish your tax dollars to be used for this purpose. Contact your House and Senate members and tell them the same thing. Speak to those you know and ask them to do the same. Speak to your friends, coworkers, church members, small group members. Belligerence and anger are not needed to make your point. It is likely that many people are not aware of the Executive orders in the first place, but again would not want their tax dollars to used in such a way. We need to speak truth in love. Much of the division in this country is not because people disagree with us, it is because we are all too often caught up in our lives to see what is happening around us. We don't pay attention to politics, because we find it boring or think again it does not affect our families.
