Now What?

Ok, so I am sure some of us are wondering now what? Now that this election is over, what can I do? I was wondering the same thing myself.

First we pray and this is my prayer:

Father God:
Thank you for allowing me to live in this country. Father I pray that You will reveal yourself in a mighty way to Pres. Elect Obama, that You will place around Him people that will listen and obey You. I pray that none of us forget from whom our blessings and prosperity flow. And that Your hand will cover this country in protection. Show me Lord what I may do to serve You in all of this. Amen

I know at first I was taken aback that I would need to pray to be obedient to God as I was horrified by the election results, but I do need to pray daily for this country and it's leaders. Not because I agree with them, but because I do so in obedience to God.

The second thing we can do is to remember we have a voice. Our voices have not been silenced, despite the election results. This country is still more traditional and center-right than it is liberal and center-left. We also need to look at each of the policies that will be coming into effect and look honestly at how they will effect our country. We need to not be afraid, we do not have a spirit of fear at all. To be angry is different than to be afraid and I am angry, but I also know that now is the time to act.

We need to support our conservative leaders and look at their records. If they represent your views, then support them, call them, write them and email them as their upcoming job will now be much more difficult, as they are the minority in the House and Senate. If you look and don't see that person, then think about running for office yourself. Now you may think: me? hmmm, not sure about that. But my question is: why not you? Is the cost high to speak out? Yes it is, but it always has been. One of the biggest mistakes I believe we have made, is that we have been afraid to stand up and speak out. However, we can see the result of this with not just the election of a liberal President, but the almost complete takeover of the House and Senate by Democrats and in my State the complete take over of the Democrats in State Government.

To stand up and speak out can be scary, because all of the "what if's" run through our minds. What if I lose friends, what if I lose my job, what if someone is mean to my children? What if's can be any number of things, but the truth of the matter is that unless we do take a stand and speak out, our country will continue to slide into more immorality and the blessings we have enjoyed will continue to erode.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am one of the least likely people to speak out, because I am shy and not crazy about confrontation and I desire acceptance like most people. However, I also know that God has used unlikely people before to accomplish His will and purpose, so I need to be willing to take that step in faith without fear.

Post Election Thoughts

This election affected me in a profound way. I could not believe what I saw with the election of Sen. Obama. It seemed so surreal that such a man would be elected to the highest office in the free world. I spent much of the excruciatingly long election cycle praying that God would not allow Sen. Obama to win, because as I read more and more about this man I was astonished that he was even in the running, not to mention leading in the polls. The reality is that Sen. Obama is now President-Elect Obama and so now we must move forward with an honest look at how his policies will effect our lives and that of our children. That is why I am writing this blog.

I am sure there are many moms who are disheartened and maybe if you are reading this you are not a mom, but are disheartened nonetheless. First let me say that God was not surprised by the results of this election and while I do not purport to speak for God, I do believe the election results are not God's best plan for America. I spent days angry that such a thing could have come to pass in the country I love so much, but it did. So now I have a choice: I can moan and complain or I can act. I choose to act and this blog will be one way to act.

My Post Election Thoughts:

I am sad for what took place on Election Day. I am sad that rhetoric was chosen over substance. I am sad that Marxism was chosen over freedom and liberty. I am sad that someone, who has never stood up for his country, was chosen over a man who has given his entire adult life to the service of his country. I am sad that a con was chosen over a patriot and true American hero. I am sad that Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" was hijacked with the public not judging a man by the content of his character, but once again choosing to view the color of someones skin. I am sad that our Nation, that was founded and sustained by Judeo-Christian values, voted for someone who revels in the deaths of the unborn and already born. I am sad that Americans chose government intrusion over our Bill of Rights. I am sad that the principals we hold dear and the foundations of this great country were traded for a government handout.

While no one can know the future except for Our Creator, I do believe that America made the wrong choice. Her future is much less secure and those who have given their lives in Service to America and her freedoms may have now done so in vain.
